Application: TinyRail (fr.xptrucks.tinyrail_app)
Last updated: 31 August 2026
In one sentence
TinyRail controls your TinyRail board directly over Bluetooth, with no account, no server and no sign-up. Your settings and measurements stay on your phone and on your board. The only thing that can leave your phone is a technical crash report, which you can decline.
What the app does not do
- No account, no sign-up. Nothing to create, nothing to connect, no credentials to provide.
- No server holds your data. The app talks to your board over Bluetooth Low Energy, device to device. Xptrucks receives none of your settings, none of your measurements, none of your consumption history.
- No advertising, no ad trackers, no profiling.
- No sale or sharing of data with third parties for commercial purposes.
- No location is read or transmitted. See the permissions section below, which explains why Android may still mention location.
What stays on your phone
The following is stored locally and sent nowhere. To remove it, uninstall the app or use its settings.
- The boards you have paired, their name and their pairing key.
- Your installations, composed pages and tile layout.
- The labels, types and settings you gave each output.
- The measurement history you download from the board.
- Your preferences: language, theme, units.
An export that you trigger yourself produces a file you choose to share or save. That file goes nowhere without your action, and never contains a pairing key.
What can leave your phone
Crash reports (Sentry)
If the app stops unexpectedly, a technical report may be sent to Sentry, our diagnostics tool, so that the defect can be fixed.
The report contains: the error message, the stack trace, the device model, the Android version and the app version.
It does not contain:
- any personal identifier: the corresponding SDK option is explicitly disabled;
- any screenshot or view hierarchy: both are disabled, because an import screen may display a pairing key;
- your board’s name: it is replaced with a neutral value before sending;
- any measurement, history or setting from your installation.
You can decline. The switch is in the app, on the Settings page, and can be changed at any time. When declined, no report is built and none is sent. The setting is on by default; turning it off removes no functionality.
Sentry acts as a processor on our behalf. Reports are kept for 90 days, then deleted. They are sent to Sentry's European infrastructure (ingest.de.sentry.io, Germany) and do not leave the European Union.
Firmware update check
The app queries tinyrail.xptrucks.fr to find out whether a newer version of your board’s firmware exists. That request carries no data about you: it downloads a public file.
Android permissions, and why
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Bluetooth (scan and connect) | To find your board and talk to it. This is the app's entire purpose. |
| Notifications | To alert you about your installation, if you asked for it. |
| Foreground service | To keep the Bluetooth link alive while you watch a measurement. |
| Precise location, Android 11 and earlier only | Those Android versions required this permission for any Bluetooth scan, unrelated to position. The app never reads your location. On Android 12 and later it is not requested: the Bluetooth scan is declared with the neverForLocation attribute. |
Children
The app is intended for owners of a TinyRail board. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any data about them.
Your rights
Since we hold no account and no database about you, there is no personal record to access or erase on our side. For crash reports, you can stop sending at any time in the settings, and ask us to delete those already received by writing to us.
Under the GDPR you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and objection. The legal basis for processing crash reports is your consent, expressed through the app’s setting.
Changes
Any change to this policy will be published at this address, with its date. A substantial change will be noted in the app’s release notes.
